Part 3: How Many Women Suffer From Hyperemesis Gravidarum?

According to various sources (thanks Google), between 2 to 5 percent of pregnant women suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum.

The amazing thing is that after I discovered what we’re dealing with and started talking to other parents I know, I realized that it’s always been around me, I just didn’t know it.

For example, I found out that no less than 4 of my friends suffered from hyperemesis in their various pregnancies. Many of the medical staff who accompanied us during this time also told us that they suffered from HG, and that many women come to receive medical treatment for it.

Each of those women suffered from hyperemesis at a different severity level and at different times, but their stories all sounded painfully familiar.

Who Else Has Had Hyperemesis Gravidarum?

If it’s any consolation, it seems like your wife is in good company. Searches I conducted online helped me discover that many impressive women suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum, and thankfully, they also spoke about it openly.

Here are a few prominent names:

  •  Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge
  • Comedian Amy Schumer (she even created the documentary “Expecting Amy” about it for HBO Max and very active in promoting HG awareness)
  • Actress Debra Messing
  • Actress Tori Spelling
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Kourtney Kardashian
  • Musician Kelly Clarckson
